My Parents’ Journey: From Kashmir to Delhi Before I Was Born

Before I was born, my parents went through a lot of struggles. They were Kashmiri Pandits, a community forced to leave their beautiful homeland due to terrorism in Kashmir, known as the valley of flowers.

Early Life and Meeting

My father’s journey began with his passion for education. Despite the tumultuous environment, he was determined to graduate from college. My mother, equally dedicated, pursued a career in nursing. Their paths crossed at a wedding, where they fell in love at first sight. It was a beautiful start, even with all the chaos around them.

Terrorism and Migration

During their early years together, terrorism in Kashmir was at its peak. Many prominent people were brutally murdered. Fearing for their safety, my parents decided to leave everything behind and migrate to Jammu, and later to Delhi.

Starting Over

In Delhi, they started their life from scratch, having lost everything in Kashmir. Despite the hardships, they were determined to build a new life.

Family Growth

On March 1, 1992, my big brother was born. He means everything to me. Four years later, on May 1, 1996, I was born. Interestingly, my birthday is on International Labour Day.

Today, I am everything because of my family and their unwavering dedication to our upbringing, their “Palan Poshan.” Their love and sacrifices have shaped who I am and continue to inspire me every day.
